Overview

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a global cloud platform used by developers and organisations to build and scale digital products. AWS had an existing platform called the Connected Community, where users could learn about its cloud and digital services, explore events, and access a range of content. The goal was to evolve the platform by introducing a forum experience to enable users to connect, share knowledge, and get support.

The work was delivered at Standing on Giants, a digital agency specialising in community strategy and platform delivery. I contributed to the UI design, adapting AWS’s brand identity into a clear, accessible interface within an existing design system.

I collaborated closely with developers to deliver a fully branded, customised community that integrated seamlessly with the existing platform, creating a cohesive experience. The community launched successfully, supporting active participation before it was discontinued after a year, while the wider Connected Community platform continues to operate.

Solution

The following screens highlight key areas of the AWS Connected Community, demonstrating how platform constraints and brand requirements were translated into a cohesive, fully branded community experience

Homepage (Logged out)

The logged-out homepage introduces the AWS community, featuring clear sign up and log in CTAs, community boards, and the latest news to encourage exploration before joining.

Homepage (Logged in)

The logged-in homepage builds on the community experience, featuring an “Ask a question” call to action in the hero banner to encourage active participation.

Discussion board

The discussion board enables members to browse active topics, start new conversations, and navigate content through a structured layout and clear hierarchy.

Conversation page

The conversation page prioritises readability and participation, establishing a clear distinction between the original post, replies, and interaction actions such as replying, quoting and voting in polls.

Mobile views

Mobile views of key screens, including the logged-out and logged-in homepage, board page, and thread page, demonstrating how the experience was adapted for smaller screens while maintaining clarity and usability.
